Our Gear

Cameras

Sony α7S III

This is the main camera we use for video. The a7S III features an incredible dynamic range and an extremely sensitive sensor for low light situations. We shoot in flat color profiles to enable the flexibility of advanced color correction in post.

We’ve been using the Sony a7S line of cameras for video for many years now and are extremely happy with the quality of video. There’s not many other cameras that are as compact as the a7S III and perform as well as it does.

Since it’s only 12MP, it isn’t a great fit for photography and we shoot our photos with a different camera body when possible.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro

The drone makes it possible for us to capture amazing cinematic 4K aerial shots yet is still small enough to fit in our backpacks.

GoPro Hero8 Black

We use the GoPro when holding a camera is impractical or need to be very discreet.

Sony α7R IV

At 61MP this camera shoots extremely detailed stills. We shoot our photos on this camera.

Lenses

Sony G 16‑35mm f/4.0

This is our primary lens. Ultra-wide with internal focus and internal power zoom. It’s light and compact and gets the job done.

Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G

This is the lens we use if we need a mid-range zoom. The lens covers a good range of focal lengths, including reaching into the ultrawide range.

Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G

This lens is a good mid-range focal length but also reaches into the telephoto range. These zoom lenses allow us to be flexible with our framing.

Backpacks

Moment Everything Backpack 21L

The bag Bryan uses. It’s flexible and with the Moment camera insert, it can protect camera equipment.

LowePro ProTactic 350 AW II

This is the backpack Michael uses. Hard shell exterior and dividers for lenses and cameras inside.

Mounts

SmallRig Camera Cage

We use the SmallRig camera cage specifically designed for the a7s III to allow us to attach accessories as well as provide some additional protection for the camera body.

edelkrone SliderPLUS Compact

This unique slider is only 13” long but nearly doubles the camera travel distance when using the belt system.

SmallRig NATO Side Handle

This side handle attaches to the side of the camera cage. It’s a great sturdy handle that provides an additional grip point to hold the camera setup.

3 Legged Thing Bucky

This sturdy and flexible tripod is sturdy and reliable. We can mount our slider to this tripod.

Manfrotto 290 Xtra

This sturdy and flexible tripod is sturdy and reliable. We can mount our slider to this tripod.

Lights

Aputure Amaran AL-F7

These are the lights you see on top of our cameras. They’re very bright and provide a soft floodlight.

Wurkkos TD04 Flashlight

A good, affordable rechargeable flashlight with multiple brightness settings. It gets very dim as well as fairly bright.

Audio

Tascam DR-10L

We use these audio recorders while filming Forbidden Explorers and Bumps in the Night episodes to ensure we always have clear and consistent audio of our dialogue.

Rode VideoMic Pro

We sometimes use this mic when filming with guests and we want to capture their audio without making them wear a lav mic.

Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro

We use this mic when we want to capture extremely clean and detailed stereo ambient sounds.
